In three easy steps, learn how to make a quick – and even infused – simple syrup. Try a mint syrup to splash into a homemade mojito. Better yet, add a drop of orange simple syrup to a cup of green tea!
1. Dissolve equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Whether it’s 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water, or 3 cups sugar and 3 cups water, use the same amount of each ingredient.
2. Add citrus peel as the sugar melts, or steep fresh herbs while the syrup cools. Adding the citrus peel as the sugar melts ensures maximum flavor infusion. Meanwhile, adding fresh fresh herbs like lavender, basil, mint while the syrup cools ensures great flavor without burning the delicate leaves.
3. Store in a glass jar up to 2 weeks. Using a glass jar will help keep the syrup fresher longer. Be sure to store your syrup in the refrigerator!
