Brown Sugar Caramelized Pears

This recipe is a great reason to head to the market and pick up some seasonal pears this weekend! They’re elegant enough for a dinner party but simple for even a quick weekend dessert!

Makes 6 half pears

  • 3 of your favorite seasonal pears (Bosch/Asian/Bjon)
  • ¼ cup of light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of water
  • 2 TBSP butter (hardened coconut oil may work)
  • ¼ tsp of ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ tsp of vanilla extract

For the Oatmeal Topping:

  • 1 cup of Quick Oats
  • ¼ cup of light brown sugar
  • 2 TBSP butter (hardened coconut oil may work)
  • Pecans, Peanuts or Walnuts (chopped)
  • Greek Yogurt
  1. In small bowl: combine oats, 1/4 cup of light brown sugar, nuts, and melted butter. Mix well and place on a non-stick bake pan. Bake at 325F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Peel pears, leaving the steam and then cut in half length-wise.
  3. In a large skillet, melt butter in medium-high. Add pears side down and cook until browned or 3 minutes. Turn pears to other side and cook 4 minutes. Add brown sugar, cinnamon and water, mix in swirling the pan. Turn them to the other side and stir in vanilla.
  4. Serve with the Oatmeal Topping & Greek yogurt.
